BOUT TO BLOW UP: HESTA PRYNN

Hesta Prynn first made a splash on the indie scene in the early 2000’s as part of Hip-Hop trio Northern State. Now she has broken out on her own and is making some very progressive indie music. Hesta has a sweet voice, a ton of talent, and a love of music that will undoubtedly keep her in the spotlight for years to come. She sat down with Indie Nation TV before her set in Frankfurt, Germany to voice her opinion on the future of music and to let us know that even though she is experimenting with rock and pop, her love of Hip-Hop will never waver.

BACKSTAGE W/ TREASURE FINGERS

Treasure fingers invited us backstage before his show in Long Beach to explain how it feels to have a huge international club hit. His single “Cross the Dancefloor,” released on Fool’s Gold records, has been scorching the charts for the past couple of years and has been one of the most remixed songs in recent memory. A product of the 80’s, Treasure Fingers influences include old school disco and funk. He is currently working on a full length album that he promises will keep bodies on that dance floor.

FASHION WEEK L.A.

Fashion Week hit Los Angeles again this past March. There were high profile events all over the city, but we at Indie Nation TV found what must have been one of the most original events Fashion Week has ever seen. BOXeight studios in Downtown L.A. hosted a very different and interesting Gala. The audience was treated to a behind-the-scenes look at goes on during Fashion Week. There were photo installations, live photo shoots, and DJ’s spinning great tunes all night. We talked with owner Mike Utsinger about what else made their show different from other Fashion Week events.

HARD NEW YEAR’S EVE

HARDFest is well known around Los Angeles for their well-curated dance festivals. DJ DESTRUCTO doubles as a promoter and resident DJ. Previous shows have included talent like Justice, Crystal Castles and even 2 Live Crew. Their New Years Eve show boasted an impressive line-up that included Boys Noize, A-trak, DJ Mehdi, and of course DESTRUCTO. The night consisted of over 7 hours of dance music, enough to keep you boogieing until 2011.

Fuck Yeah Fest ‘09

Fuck Yeah Fest is one of the most respected indie music festivals in Los Angeles. Fuck Yeah Fest, also known as FYF Fest, has grown in each year of it’s existence, and their 2009 festival was their biggest party yet. This year, the festival was held at the Los Angeles State Historic Park in Downtown L.A. to remind concert goers to “Save Our State Parks.” FYF Fest not only brought together the best indie acts from L.A., but from all over the country as well. Their 2009 line-up included Peanut Butter Wolf, the Thermals, and a special musical performance from Tim & Eric among others.
