LIGHTS ON “WE LIVE UNDERGROUND”

Lights On is a San Diego based band that invited us to hang backstage with them last year at Club Nokia (Check out Press Pass: Lights On).  They were a down to earth group of guys who genuinely love playing music. This is their new music vid “We Live Underground”.  The video has a retro feel that is reminiscent of an old school psychedelic Doors video.  These guys know how to rock out!

ED VALLANCE “SILENT SUN”

Ed Vallance, once considered a British Indie rocker, moved to Los Angeles back in 2008 and then made his way to Brooklyn.  ”Silent Sun” is a soothing single off of his new album The Summer Fire EP which combines influences from all three coasts. We just got this music video in our inbox and thought we should share it with you. If you would like to send a music video to be considered for placement, please feel free to e-mail us at indienationtv@gmail.com.

FUTURECOP! “STARWORSHIPER”

It is obvious that Electro-pop producers Futurecop! are huge fans of the 80’s after viewing the first 5 seconds of their music video “Starworshiper.” Their sound is also heavily influenced by the 80’s, especially those 1980’s TV show theme songs. If you are a product of the 80’s like us at Indie Nation TV, Futurecop! may evoke some nostalgic memories of when you were a kid sitting in front of the television on a Saturday morning. The UK duo has been making some noise on the indie dance scene for the past couple of years and if you like what you hear, be sure to pick up their EP “The Unicorn and the Lost City of Alvograth.”

M.I.A. “BORN FREE”

M.I.A. will be releasing her third full length album in July and it has already generated a ton of buzz. The video from the first single, “Born Free,” has sparked a lot of controversy and has reportedly been banned from Youtube. M.I.A., who grew up in war torn Sri Lanka, has always been one for political awareness. “Born Free” takes a somewhat satirical look at the ongoing war in the Middle East, while still remaining very real. This clip is gritty, original, and very daring.

PENNAN BRAE “GOIN’ DOWN”

Canadian singer-songwriter Pennan Brae recently sent us his video for his single “Goin’ Down.” It is a really well shot video of two lovers torn apart when one of them has to move to Paris. Pennan’s bluesy sound perfectly compliments this sad and romantic video. Pennan Brae is truly an indie artist. He is still unsigned and personally emailed us this video. If you have an amazing music video that you would like to see on Indie Nation TV please email us “indienationtv@gmail.com.”

Tape Deck Mountain “Scantrons”

San Diego indie rockers Tape Deck Mountain deliver one of the most creative videos you’ll ever see. The band embarks on a crazy journey in a world filled with Scantrons (you know those tests where you fill in the bubble). If you scored low on your SAT’s or choke when it comes to pop quizzes, you may want to look away.

Yeasayer “Wait for the Summer”

Over the last couple of years Brooklyn-based rockers Yeasayer have been one of the most talked about indie bands on the scene. They received a lot of notoriety while on tour with MGMT and have drawn comparisons to alt-rockers Animal Collective. In their new video “Wait for the Summer,” they deliver a visually stunning, psychedelic trip. The video starts with an apple in the Garden of Eden that eventually leaves this planet and explores the deepest ends of the galaxy until it is the last living thing left in the universe.

maps “I Dream of Crystal”

One of the coolest things about maps, the alter-ego of UK musician James Chapman, may be that Megan Fox is a big fan.  But even cooler is the video for his new single “I Dream of Crystal,” taken from his latest album Turning the Mind.  It’s filled with psychedelic eyeballs that shine and shimmer and at one point even smile. It’s like you’re watching the video while the video watches you back. The clip is mesmerizing and hypnotizing and perfectly fits the mood of maps’ brooding  electronic indie rock.

Dinosaur Jr. “Over It”

Dinosaur Jr. has been making indie rock before most of us heard the term “Indie Rock.” They are legends in the game, influencing many rock bands that emerged in the early 90’s, including Kurt Cobain of Nirvana. Not only have they been influential with their music, but they are also pioneers in music video making, working with director Spike Jonze in his very early years. The video for their newest single “Over It,” shows them tearing up the city stunting on their BMX bikes. Proving that after 25 years of rocking out, they still got it.

Fever Ray “When I Grow Up”

Fever Ray’s Karin Dreijer has never been one to be accused of being dull. Her wild outfits and music videos always make for something to talk about around the water cooler. In this clip she plays a Boogie Monster type character with powers to control swimming pools. She may be beckoning some kind of underwater monster, who knows. What I do know is that her music is always amazing. She may have the scariest voice in all of music, but here it is coupled with an amazingly creepy video. Turn the lights off and have fun with this one.

Múm “Sing Along”

Icelandic Electronic-Folk group Mum always made albums filled with quirky, lengthy song titles. Now the band has brought their odd sense of humor to their music video making. This clip shows a Nordic farming couple hunting for their dinner. After securing a deer carcass, the dead animal proceeds to join the couple in a sing along. And if you think that sounds strange, wait until you see the rest of the video.

We Were Promised Jetpacks “Roll Up Your Sleeves”

Scotland’s next big thing, We Were Promised Jetpacks, partner with filmmaker/animator Mark Charlton on this amazingly creative video. The vid is reminiscent of those collages you used to make in grade school… if your collage came to life and rocked out! Jetpacks have already conquered their homeland with their debut album These Four Walls, which has garnered comparisons to the Futureheads and Gang of Four, now they set their sites on The States.

Scripts ‘N Screwz “Brick”

St. Louis Hip-Hop duo Scripts ‘N Screwz comes with a really cool animated video that brings back memories of 80’s cartoon “The Snorks.” The two venture underwater to party with some sea people in their Hip-Hop version of A Little Mermaid. It’s good to see Hip-Hop artists venture away from the formulaic booty-shaking, Bentley-driving music videos we are used to seeing. Though Hip-Hop may be on it’s last leg, indie rappers like Scripts ‘N Screwz are doing their part to keep it fresh.

Moby “Pale Horses”

Moby is an Indie Icon. He has been making dance and electronica music since the early 90’s. Along with the Chemical Brothers, Daft Punk and Fatboy Slim, Moby is responsible for the popularity and sound of dance music today. His newest video “Pale Horses” is a great story about a lonely alien trying to make friends. The video is amazing and Moby’s music provides the perfect soundtrack.

Fever Ray “Seven”

Karin Dreijer rose to fame as the lead singer of Swedish brother-sister duo The Knife. Now the Swede ventures out on her own with her solo project Fever Ray. Fever Ray’s sound is a little more lo-fi, but her haunting vocals fit perfectly with this creepy video.

Black Joe Lewis & the Honeybears “Sugarfoot”

Black Joe Lewis & the Honeybears are an 8-piece R&B group hailing from Austin, Texas. They are trying to revive that classic old school soul sound that most of today’s R&B artists seem to be lacking. You can hear the James Brown influence in their music almost instantly and the Honeybears have even shared the stage with Little Richard. Who knows maybe they will be the band to bring soul back.

Health “Die Slow”

Experimental noise-rock band HEALTH delivers a visual treat with their new video “Die Slow.” The L.A. band made a huge splash when they worked with Crystal Castles on the groundbreaking track “Crimewave.” Now the band is all on their own and making waves with their second full-length album Get Color.

Blitzen Trapper “Black River Killer”

This video from Blitzen Trapper is equal parts creepy and visually stunning. Their music relaxes you while their video presents images of a masked audience and a slowly drowning man. They helm from the booming Indie music scene of Portland, OR, the same city as the Gossip and Yacht. This is a band you definitely want to keep your eye (and ear) out for.

M83 “We Own the Sky”

“We Own the Sky” is another gem from French one-man band M83. The second video off the album Saturdays=Youth shows a group of young people having a frolicking good time in a field on what I’m guessing is a Saturday afternoon. This is a perfect video to put on if you want to chill out and forget all about your worries.

Polly Scattergood “Please Don’t Touch”

Keep an eye out for Miss Polly Scattergood. Polly was born and raised in Colchester, Essex; the oldest city in the UK. This video demonstrates her fun and adventurous spirit as she dances around through the streets of London playfully singing. WARNING: This pop tune is super catchy. You will undoubtedly be singing the chorus over and over.
