Yeasayer “Wait for the Summer”

Over the last couple of years Brooklyn-based rockers Yeasayer have been one of the most talked about indie bands on the scene. They received a lot of notoriety while on tour with MGMT and have drawn comparisons to alt-rockers Animal Collective. In their new video “Wait for the Summer,” they deliver a visually stunning, psychedelic trip. The video starts with an apple in the Garden of Eden that eventually leaves this planet and explores the deepest ends of the galaxy until it is the last living thing left in the universe.

maps “I Dream of Crystal”

One of the coolest things about maps, the alter-ego of UK musician James Chapman, may be that Megan Fox is a big fan.  But even cooler is the video for his new single “I Dream of Crystal,” taken from his latest album Turning the Mind.  It’s filled with psychedelic eyeballs that shine and shimmer and at one point even smile. It’s like you’re watching the video while the video watches you back. The clip is mesmerizing and hypnotizing and perfectly fits the mood of maps’ brooding  electronic indie rock.

Dinosaur Jr. “Over It”

Dinosaur Jr. has been making indie rock before most of us heard the term “Indie Rock.” They are legends in the game, influencing many rock bands that emerged in the early 90’s, including Kurt Cobain of Nirvana. Not only have they been influential with their music, but they are also pioneers in music video making, working with director Spike Jonze in his very early years. The video for their newest single “Over It,” shows them tearing up the city stunting on their BMX bikes. Proving that after 25 years of rocking out, they still got it.

Fever Ray “When I Grow Up”

Fever Ray’s Karin Dreijer has never been one to be accused of being dull. Her wild outfits and music videos always make for something to talk about around the water cooler. In this clip she plays a Boogie Monster type character with powers to control swimming pools. She may be beckoning some kind of underwater monster, who knows. What I do know is that her music is always amazing. She may have the scariest voice in all of music, but here it is coupled with an amazingly creepy video. Turn the lights off and have fun with this one.

Múm “Sing Along”

Icelandic Electronic-Folk group Mum always made albums filled with quirky, lengthy song titles. Now the band has brought their odd sense of humor to their music video making. This clip shows a Nordic farming couple hunting for their dinner. After securing a deer carcass, the dead animal proceeds to join the couple in a sing along. And if you think that sounds strange, wait until you see the rest of the video.

Scripts ‘N Screwz “Brick”

St. Louis Hip-Hop duo Scripts ‘N Screwz comes with a really cool animated video that brings back memories of 80’s cartoon “The Snorks.” The two venture underwater to party with some sea people in their Hip-Hop version of A Little Mermaid. It’s good to see Hip-Hop artists venture away from the formulaic booty-shaking, Bentley-driving music videos we are used to seeing. Though Hip-Hop may be on it’s last leg, indie rappers like Scripts ‘N Screwz are doing their part to keep it fresh.

Black Joe Lewis & the Honeybears are an 8-piece R&B group hailing from Austin, Texas. They are trying to revive that classic old school soul sound that most of today’s R&B artists seem to be lacking.
